Meet the Top 4 Indian Startups from varied sectors that won National Startup Awards 2021

PM Narendra Modi declared January 16 as National Startup Day. Putting the spotlight on startups, PM Modi called them the backbone of new India.

National Startup Awards 2021 seek to recognize startups that contribute to economic dynamism by spurring innovation and injecting competition. It is focussed on startups that are building innovative products/solutions, scalable enterprises, with high potential of employment generation or wealth creation, demonstrating measurable social impact.

This is the second edition of the National Startup Awards. Applications were invited across 15 sectors and 49 sub-sectors. The sectors ranged from agriculture to animal husbandry and from enterprise technology to fintech.

The ministry received 2,177 applications from startups across 49 sub-sectors. Applications were also received from 53 incubators and 6 accelerators for the ecosystem enabler categories. Of these, 863 were women-led startups and 253 were startups working in rural areas of the country,

The Ministry said that six parameters were used to decide the winners – innovation, scalability, economic impact, social impact, environmental impact, and inclusiveness and diversity.


Here are the top 4 startups who won National Startup Awards 2021:

1. Shipsy: Gurugram-based startup Shipsy, a smart logistics management platform that empowers global businesses to optimize, automate, track, and simplify the end-to-end supply chain and logistics operations was declared the winner in the Enterprise Software category for Logistics Management. The startup was founded in 2015, the company leverages AI, ML, and big data to design and develop low-code SaaS solutions to improve operational efficiency across industries. The brand has recently set its regional headquarters in Dubai. Last year the company raised $6M in Series A round led by Sequoia Capital India’s Surge and existing investor Info Edge.

2. ToneTag: Bengaluru-based startup called ToneTag, the largest sound-wave communication technology platform in the world was declared the winner in the fintech category financial inclusion sub-sector. ToneTag’s technology uses sound waves to enable contactless, offline, and proximity data communication on any device. With 17 globally filed patents and multiple grants, this Bengaluru-based company is changing the payment and transaction landscape in India. ToneTag is now poised to provide voice-based digital payment options to more than 600 million feature phone users for the first time to improve their lives, start businesses and gain control of their finances, leading them to digital empowerment.

3. Sagar Defence Engineering: Mumbai-based startup Sagar Defence Engineering was declared the winner in the Robotics sub-sector. The startup, founded in 2015 by Mridul Babbar and Nikunj Parashar, builds autonomous navigation systems, unmanned marine, and aerial vehicles.

4. Agrirain Agro Industries Private Limited: Hyderabad- based startup was declared the winner in the Irrigation sub-sector. The startup works towards finding an economical and effective solution that works for small farmers. It has developed an Irrigation as a Service (IaaS) model where trained operators use fully integrated and mobile hose reel technology to provide hassle-free, pay-per-service, and on-demand irrigation.
