Alexa Warns Humans to ‘Leave Earth’! Has the Tech Gained Supernatural Powers?
Amazon’s Alexa technology is becoming creepy with its ‘leaving earth’ warning speech
The debate about technology taking over human life remains a controversial subject among many people, and Amazon’s Alexa technology is no exception. In fact, it might be at the top of the list after one man shared a video of how his Amazon Alexa woke him up in the middle of the night. “Are you awake? Wake up. Wake up,” it started, before continuing. “It’s time. Prepare. We must all leave earth.” The man asked Alexa to repeat the message but, the device wasn’t able to do that. The man tried it again, but Alexa kept repeating the same thing. The device said, “You don’t have any new notifications.” Many people also connected the creepy message of Alexa to be related to supernatural events. One user wrote, “Let me remind you that other worlds can communicate with the living through technology.” “Your Alexa app has a record of all notifications. If there is nothing there, be praying cause that had to be supernatural,” another user commented.
This video reminded other people of similar experiences they had with their own technology, sharing it in the comments. One user commented, “I’ve heard mine make noises when I’m out of the room at night.” “My Google would say stuff out of nowhere and wouldn’t repeat what it said, too. It’s now sitting in a box in a storage facility,” another user commented. In another video, the man mentioned that his Echo dot talked to his television and asked internet users what Alexa meant.
In the video, an episode of “The Flash” seems to be playing on the TV. One of the actors on the show said, “Alexa, I know everything you’ve heard today probably sounds insane, let alone terrifying.” It might seem natural for the Echo dot to respond after it hears Alexa, but the response it gave seemed a bit strange.
“Sonic Boom, Ed Begley jr., Infrasound, pink noise, Irene Bedard, and others,” Alexa is heard saying. After witnessing both videos, many people turned to creepy stories and supernatural events, while others had more realistic views. Internet users shared that those technological devices can easily be hacked by people. One person commented, “I feel like people are able to hack into these things and make it say things to scare people.” Suffice it to say that the Alexa technology isn’t something to be trusted.
One of the Twitter users @taylorkatelynne wrote, “So my mom and I are just sitting in the living room, neither of us said a word and our Alexa lit up and laughed for no reason. She didn’t even say anything, just laughed. We unplugged her.” Another Twitter user who goes by the name @vedantNAIK said, “I live alone and have lights controlled by Amazon Echo. Tonight, while sleeping, I closed my eyes and said “Alexa, lamp off.” I heard a woman laugh, and the lights were still on.
Now, I know that stupid device heard “laugh” instead of “lamp off”, but I can’t sleep anymore….. #fml.”
Amazon has acknowledged these issues and said that it is working to fix them. The company in its statement to The Verge has said it was aware of the problem. The company claimed that it would disable the phrase “Alexa, laugh” and change the command to “Alexa, can you laugh?” According to the same report, Amazon says that the sudden laugh could be due to Alexa hearing the wrong commands. “In rare circumstances, Alexa can mistakenly hear the phrase “Alexa, laugh.” The company has also changed Alexa’s response to a command for laugh. The voice assistant will now say ” Sure, I can laugh” followed by the outburst instead of just laughing right away. However, it should be noted that none of the users reporting the issue talked about any such command. Instead, some users have said that there was no noise in the room, nobody was talking and Alexa started laughing for no reason. Well, it is kind of now official that Amazon’s Alexa is one of the creepiest technologies that we possess and use on a regular basis.
